Welcome to "Through a Glass Darkly" - my blog about my service trip to Malawi, Africa.

I left Canada on December 30th for Blantyre, Malawi, AFRICA. I worked with Friends of Malawi Fellowship (FOMF), the organization headed by my aunt Phyllis Labrentz. I taught English language and literature, helping secondary high school students learn to read and write English well enough to pass the government exams.
During that time I was also kept busy teaching guitar, singing, and assisting my aunt.
I left Malawi on July 19th and returned to Canada on July 20th.

ANIMALS: AWWWWWW & EWWWWW

I took these photos at the Chichiri shopping center last Tuesday.
My cell phone camera was set for multiple shots, about 2 seconds apart.

These next photos were taken yesterday.
Mambas are venomous and extremely dangerous.
A green mamba had gone into the gardener's bathroom (it has a doorway to the outside). He had been bitten on the ankle by one last year, so he really wasn't keen on this snake being anywhere near him. From nose to tail I would say it was almost a metre long. Widest point would be maybe 2 cm; narrowest 1/2 cm.  You can see how easily a snake like this could hide in the grass--hence the expression, "snake in the grass".
